What are Physiatrists?
Physiatrists are physicians trained in the medical diagnosis and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and neurological medical conditions to optimally manage pain and optimize physical function. These physicians complete training in the medical specialty Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) also known as physiatry.

Allen Kaisler-Meza, M.D.
Dr. Allen Kaisler-Meza earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and completed his residency training at Stanford University. He is a board-certified physiatrist and a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME). Dr. Kaisler-Meza worked as Assistant Medical Director of Rehabilitation at Laurel Grove Hospital and then served as Medical Director of Rehabilitation at San Jose Hospital. He is currently the Medical Director of Rehabilitation at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Kaisler-Meza also completed a six-month intensive acupuncture training program at UCLA and incorporates medical acupuncture into his practice. He is skilled at performing electrodiagnostic studies and intra-articular and Botox injections for pain management. He is a co-founder of RehabOne Medical Group and RehabOne Functional Restoration Programs. Dr. Kaisler-Meza is fluent in Spanish.
Michael Post, M.D.
Dr. Michael Post graduated medical school from the State University of New York Health Science Center in Syracuse, performed his internship at Cornell North Shore University Hospital and completed his residency training at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Post is a board-certified physiatrist and pain medicine specialist. He is also a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME). He has been extensively involved in organized medicine and is a past president of both the California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery and the California Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Post has developed and managed several functional restoration and pain management programs in Northern California. He is a co-founder and chief medical officer of RehabOne Medical Group and RehabOne Functional Restoration Programs. In addition, Dr. Post is an active-affiliate on the medical staff at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Ronald Fujimoto, D.O.
Dr. Ronald Fujimoto earned his medical degree at the Western University of Health Sciences. He served at the U.S. Army Hospital at Fort Meade Maryland in general practice and emergency room medicine before completing his residency at Walter Reed U.S. Army Medical Center. He is a board-certified physiatrist and pain medicine specialist and is also board-certified in electrodiagnostic medicine. Dr. Fujimoto is a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) and is a certified independent medical examiner (CIME) for the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners. He served as staff physiatrist at Ford Ord and San Jose Good Samaritan Medical Group before starting private practice. Dr. Fujimoto is co-founder of RehabOne Medical Group and RehabOne Functional Restoration Programs.
Melinda Brown, M.D.
Dr. Melinda Brown earned her medical degree from Northwestern University and completed her residency training at Ohio State University. Dr. Brown is a board-certified physiatrist and is a Qualified Medical Examiner (QME). She has served on the board of directors for the California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery, as well as vice president and current president-elect for the California Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Brown has been in practice in Gilroy, California since 2004 and has been providing physician services at the SpineOne Functional Restoration Programs since 2007. She joined RehabOne Medical Group in 2011. Her practice focus is on treating musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain, with emphasis on multidisciplinary care, injections including Botox, Trigger point and Peripheral joints as well as performing electrodiagnostic studies.
Elisa Yao, M.D.
Dr. Elisa Yao is board-certified in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Integrative Holistic Medicine. A graduate of U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis Medical School, Dr. Yao completed her residency training at U.C. Davis Medical Center. Dr. Yao has received several honors including the Mercy Touch Recognition Award for exceptional compassionate care, the William M. Fowler Resident Research Award, and the Outstanding Resident Teaching Award. She also works at Good Samaritan Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit in addition to seeing patients in her private practice. Dr. Yao is passionate about functional medicine, which is focused on find root causes of health problems and applying treatments accordingly. She has been practicing functional medicine since 2011, specializing in holistic pain management, chronic fatigue, and weight management. Due to her own personal struggle with infertility, which she fortunately overcame through better understanding of women’s reproductive health and function, Dr. Yao is now eager to help other couples wanting to get pregnant naturally in her clinic. Lisa Kroopf, M.D.
Dr. Lisa Kroopf is a native of Monterey County who is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and completed her fellowship training in Pain Management at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). She graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara followed by residency at LLUMC, where she served as chief resident. Dr. Kroopf specializes in treating chronic neck and low back pain with interventional procedures such as epidural injections, facet injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation and spinal cord stimulators. She also treats a variety of musculoskeletal and neurologic pain conditions including myofascial pain syndromes, CRPS, fibromyalgia, headaches, joint disorders and peripheral neuropathy. Dr. Kroopf’s training is deeply rooted in a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach. She believes that reducing pain early in its cycle may result in improved quality of life and increased physical function. Her goal for every patient is to decrease reliance on pain medications and facilitate return to work and daily activities. Dr. Kroopf is fluent in Spanish and treats patients in our Salinas office.
Kimberly Phan, M.D.
Dr. Kimberly Phan earned her B.S in Biochemistry at UC San Diego, and then trained at UC Davis Medical School and UC Davis for her PM&R residency. She was awarded the Outstanding resident teaching award two consecutive years while at UC Davis. Dr. Phan’s clinical interests focus on functional rehabilitation and healing of the patient and family. She is skilled at electrodiagnostic studies, peripheral joint and tendon injections and is fluent in Fukien. Dr. Phan treats patients in our San Jose and Gilroy offices.
Shelley McDonald, M.D.
Dr. Shelley McDonald is a board certified doctor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation who specializes in sports medicine. She focuses on a conservative, non-surgical treatment of orthopedic and neurological disorders with an emphasis on exercise-based approaches. She grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated Magna Cum Laude from DePauw University in 2002 with a B.A. in psychology. She earned her M.D. degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2006. Following an internship at Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies, she completed her residency in PM & R at Stanford University. She then went on to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Cleveland Clinic where she had a chance to directly treat athletes from the high school to professional levels. As a marathon runner and sports enthusiast herself, Dr. McDonald is focused on alleviating musculoskeletal pain brought on by activity. She emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach to treat pain and restore function. Specific skills in which she specializes include performing electromyography studies to diagnose neuropathies, radiculopathies, as well as performing joint injections.
Amruta Samarth, M.D.
Dr. Amruta Samarth completed her Residency training in PM&R from Baylor College of Medicine/University of Texas Alliance Program where she was awarded the prestigious Oliver R. Smith M.D. award for Outstanding Resident for excellence in administrative, research, academic and clinical skills. She is board-certified in PM&R and has served as Medical Director of Transplant Rehab at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana and later worked at Memorial Hermann Hospital Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) in Texas. Over the course of her career, she has treated medically complex individuals after organ transplants and life changing injuries such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputees and poly-trauma. At RehabOne, she will be treating patients with musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, post-stroke rehabilitation and spasticity management after stroke, spinal cord injury and brain injury. She is skilled in intra-articular steroid injections, trigger point injections and ultrasound guided intramuscular botulinum toxin injections for spasticity management. Her primary practice location will be at the Los Gatos clinic. She’s fluent in Hindi and Marathi.
Angela Mignea, PA-C
Angela Mignea graduated medical school from the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. In Romania, she worked as a neonatologist. She moved to California and performed clinical research in the Departments of Anesthesia and Hematology/Oncology at Stanford University Medical Center. Angela graduated from the Stanford School of Medicine Primary Care Associate Program and later worked in the Stanford Department of Functional Neurosurgery where she was involved in the care of patients with chronic pain. Her attributes include a varied work experience in the medical field, which offers a unique and valuable addition to our group. Angela brings with her a strong background in research coupled with patient care and we are delighted to have her as part of our team!
Jesse Phelps, PA-C
Jesse Phelps is a Certified Physician Assistant who attended Loma Linda University for his Masters of Physician Assistant Degree, graduating in 2013. He also attended Emperor’s College where he became a Acupuncturist and Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine. Jessie is certified as a Personal Trainer by American Council of Exercise. He has worked in private practices in southern California ranging from specialties such as Physical Medicine to Advanced Pain Management. Jessie treats patients in our Salinas office.
Lindsay Anagnost, FNP-BC
Lindsay Anagnost was raised in Northern California and she graduated with honors from San Diego State University and California State University Fullerton. She received her family nurse practitioner degree from University of Massachusetts, Boston. She is a Licensed California Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified in Family Practice with specialties in pain management and addictionology. She is also certified as a Public Health Nurse. Lindsay has extensive experience working one on one with patients in both rehabilitation and addiction and has provided consultations on patients who have chronic pain complicated by the use of mood altering medications in both the acute and outpatient setting. She is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and California Association of Nurse Practitioners. Her practice focus addresses the emotional side of pain, strengthening the mind body connection and emphasizing alternative treatments for pain management. She has a passion for patient empowerment and education and advocates for her patients to give them a strong hold on a healthy lifestyle. Lindsay treats patients in our San Jose office.
Richard Esquivel, O.M.D., L.Ac.
Dr. Esquivel completed his bachelors degree at U.C. Berkeley, his Masters degree of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Five Branches Institute and obtained a Doctorate of Oriental Medicine degree from South Baylo University in 2007. He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics, a board specialty within his field of medicine. This is a post-graduate training program for acupuncturists in the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal pain conditions. He has over 12 years of experience treating a wide range of pain conditions with acupuncture in his private practice and over 6 years experience treating work injuries in occupational medicine and pain management settings. Dr. Esquivel provides acupuncture services at our Los Gatos and Gilroy facilities.
Jessica Luu, L.Ac.
Jessica Luu, L.Ac., is a California Board Certified Licensed Acupuncturist. She received her Master in Chinese Medicine from the Five Branches University, in San Jose, where she completed more than 3200 hours in eastern medicine and western medicine. During her training, she apprenticed with specialists in internal medicine, pain management, nutrition and infertility. She spent a semester at Zhezhang University in Hangzhou, China, observing the renounced TCM doctors treating their patients. She enjoys taking time listening to her patients and assessing the roots of their ailments and pain, then she proactively puts together treatment plans. Jessica aims to help her patients to optimize their health and to reclaim their lives. Jessica Luu is fluent in Vietnamese and treats patients in our San Jose office.
Hobbie Cao, L.Ac.
Hobbie Cao, L.Ac., is a caring individual who strives to provide high quality effective acupuncture treatments. He was raised using natural remedies to treat common ailments as a child and rarely depended on Western Pharmaceuticals. This led him down a path of discovering Holistic Medicine and fortunately by fate, he discovered the 2500-year-old medicine of acupuncture. He successfully graduated from Five Branches University with a Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a California Board Licensed Acupuncturist. He continued his acupuncture education by apprenticing with world recognized Master OMD Richard Tan. Being raised in the local town of Campbell, CA, he is living his goal of providing back to our community by being a member of RehabOne in Los Gatos.
Monisha Chanan, D.C.
Monisha Chanan, D.C. is a CA board-certified chiropractor. She has specialized in occupational medicine and personal injury care since 2000. Dr. Chanan completed her pre-chiropractic requirements at Cal State University, in Hayward. She received her doctor of chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West, Hayward, in 1999. Dr. Chanan is a certified by the State of California Division of Workers’ Compensation Medical Unit as a Qualified Medical Evaluator. She is also a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialists. Dr. Chanan has vast experience in treating musculoskeletal conditions, through joint manipulation with adjunctive physiotherapy techniques. She emphasizes patient educational tools and home exercise programs, as a way for her patients to achieve better clinical outcomes and pain relief. Dr. Chanan is fluent in Punjabi and treats patients in our San Jose/Los Gatos offices.
Zandra R. Amato, DC, QME
Dr. Zandra Rolón Amato, frequently referred to as Dr. Z” by her patients, is a fully accredited Doctor of Chiropractic and a Qualified Medical Examiner (QME) certified by the California Division of Worker’s Compensation. In 1989, Dr. Z earned her doctor of chiropractic degree from the Southern California College of Chiropractic with formal training from the Cleveland Chiropractic College, in Los Angeles. Dr. Z is an expert in structural and spinal analysis and diagnosis. She has specialized training in Craniosacral Therapy and the McKenzie Method. Dr. Z is an advanced proficiency rated doctor specializing in The Activator Method, a gentle, non-force alignment rehabilitation for sports and work-related injuries. Dr. Z empowers her patients to obtain and maintain optimal health by teaching them how their bodies work. “Education is power! The more patients know about how their bodies work, the better their bodies will work!” She is committed to providing quality health care by educating each patient and assisting all in establishing and restoring a healthy way of being through the use of complementary holistic medicine. Kirsten McGlynn, CMT
Kirsten McGlynn, CMT, graduated from the comprehensive 900-hour massage therapy program at National Holistic Institute and became a Certified Massage Therapist in 2016. Building upon her foundation of a variety of massage modalities and techniques such as Swedish, Shiatsu, acupressure and energy work, she continued her therapeutic studies at San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork, where she specialized in Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release. Kirsten’s safe and effective blend of massage techniques include applying gentle sustained pressure and stretching into myofascial tissue restrictions to help eliminate pain and restore motion. Kirsten treats patients in our Los Gatos Office.
Joel O’Beso, PsyD.
Dr. O’Beso has been the Director of Functional Restoration Programs for Pain since 2002. He is passionate about helping individuals affected by chronic pain to regain hope and live meaningful and productive lives. After completing his Doctorate in Psychology in 2001, he received advanced training in the use of Behavioral Medicine for Chronic Pain. He is currently the Director of Functional Restoration Services at RehabOne Medical Group.
Janet Kraemer, Ph.D.
Dr. Kraemer has been practicing in the fields of clinical and health psychology for nearly 20 years. She received her Masters and Doctoral Degrees at Alliant University in Clinical Psychology with a proficiency in Health Psychology and completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She has consulted on three Inpatient Rehabilitation Units for patients suffering from stroke, head injury, or other disabling conditions. Dr. Kraemer was honored by the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative for her work in treating cancer-related pain. She has been practicing in Los Gatos since 2006 with a focus in chronic pain. Dr. Kraemer is the Director of Behavioral Medicine for the RehabOne Programs, as well as treating her practice patients in our Los Gatos and Gilroy facilities.
Oscar Hernandez-Sutton, Ph.D.
Dr. Hernandez-Sutton was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of San Francisco, in Psychology, and in 2011 he obtained his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Sofia University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at Kaiser Permanente, where he was part of the chemical dependency team and had the opportunity to co-lead a chronic pain management group. Dr. Hernandez-Sutton also worked as a substance abuse psychotherapist at the Salvation Army, where he offered counseling to recovery victims of substance abuse. He has a special interest in Buddhist psychology and in teaching mindfulness techniques to individuals with chronic pain. Dr. Hernandez-Sutton will be treating patients in our San Jose/Salinas offices and is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Ernestina “Netty” Araiza, PsyD.
Dr. Araiza is the bilingual/bicultural (Spanish/English) Medical Psychotherapist at RehabOne in Salinas. In 2002, she started providing pain psychology services to injured workers at an Interdisciplinary Pain Rehabilitation Program in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Araiza is originally from Mexico, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology and a Master of Science in Family Relations. In the United States, she earned a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Psychology. Dr. Araiza’s professional interests include cross-cultural issues and health psychology; particularly, how improving the individual’s thinking, feeling and behaving can promote her or his health and wellness, or facilitate the healing process if ill. For patients with health conditions that medical science cannot cure yet, like chronic pain, Dr. Araiza’s work focuses on helping them strengthen their resiliency and their ability to cope and adapt successfully
